We’re still ironing it out, but we’re getting places. I’m okay with Floyd frequently referring to me as “Bumblebee, my little friend.” He’s working on getting used to my 90′s surfer slang. You’ve gotta meet in the middle, y’know?
It’s a bit of an eye opener exchanging geek heritages. There are aspects that geeks as a people can ascribe to, but everyone’s got their own flavor. You can usually find something to share. Floyd and I have D&D and Star Wars to keep us together. Those roots run deep. We’re talking 4th grade deep on that second one.
Often the differences in expertise are easier to make up than the differences in degree. We at U20 like to refer to ourselves as “renaissance geeks”: sure, we can tell you how to kill a Tarrasque and name a good number of Trek films, but we can also, y’know, handle conversations with people. Often females of the species. And we do other things too. Much like our occasionally-opposed nerdy proclivities, it’s all about balance. I’m always impressed with a robust knowledge of a comic book pantheon, but if that’s all you know, you’ve gotta branch out, man.
Because I’ve got an ancient Chinese philosophy geek-streak that’s gonna blow your mind.
EDIT: The above is posted by me, Bjorn, but for whatever reason it’s showing up under Floyd’s name. Hmm…
