I thought of getting into a toga as well, but those Animal House bastards brought that one over to the other team.
In my real life I recognize the intrinsic hypocrisy in opposing a perceived social subset, like the “bro culture”. First of all, you basically set up a category based on a few people, or a few traits, which are impossible to standardize. Secondly, in defining oneself by opposition to another lifestyle you either a) create nothing or b) create an ill-defined additional subset for you and your cohort that’s just going to annoy someone else.
Come to think of it, such an act inspired by anger or spite flies right in the face of Stoic philosophy. Stoicism is not as boring as we might have you believe above. Though the word has taken more colloquial meanings, in its earlier incarnations it’s a very interesting philosophy. The word’s more familiar definitions of being staid and indifferent come from the Stoic value of deeming action motivated by reason superior to action motivated by emotion. Stoics emphasized living in accordance with nature, and held virtue among their highest ideals.
They are very quiet, however, on the subjects of LAX and upside-down visors. Coincidence? I’ll let you be the judge.
