Listen, there’re a lot of variations on Spandex. A guy’s liable to miss a few guesses.
I’m trying to wrap my head around the dudes in dudettes’ costumes bit. As far as I can tell, it’s not a full on transvestite thing (though correct me if I’m wrong, ComicCon-eers): to fitting quote Eddie Izzard there’s a “slight crowbar of separation there.” It seems to be a separate culture all together. The very hairy man with a bit of a tummy who posed for us in his Batgirl costume was not, to my knowledge, trying to accurately manifest his favorite character. It would seem there’s a type of planned humor to it. What drew him to the idea? Is it the kind of self-deprecating humor one sometimes finds in stand-up? Is it a type of on-its-head confidence booster, “if I can go out wearing this I can do anything” deal? The mysteries of The Con are inscrutable.
To be fair to this guy though, I should have remembered Bruce Banner is a never-nude.
